Can I use the e-gates at foreign airports with an Indian passport?
The problem
Not every passport can use e-gates abroad (the UK’s eGates, for one, don’t take Indian passports).
The fix
Check the e-gate rules for your passport before you queue; at home, Indian citizens and OCI cardholders who enrol in the government’s FTI-TTP can use e-gates at participating Indian airports.

How we checked this
Checked 2 Nov 2026. Every claim above comes from the pages below. This page states no prices, fares or exchange rates, and rules can change, so confirm with your airline, the airport or the official site before you travel.
- GOV.UK: UK border control, at border control
Outside the EU, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein, only passports from Australia, Canada, Japan, New Zealand, Singapore, South Korea and the USA may use the UK eGates. India is not listed.
- Ministry of Home Affairs: Fast Track Immigration, Trusted Traveller Programme (FTI-TTP)
The programme is open to Indian nationals and to foreign nationals holding an OCI card; you register online and give biometrics; e-gates are at participating Indian airports.
- ACI Asia-Pacific: Delhi Airport launches the FTI-TTP
How the two e-gates in the Delhi lane work: passport and boarding pass at the first, face scan at the next.
- ICAO: document readers
How passport readers work: the printed lines unlock the chip, which holds the facial image the camera compares against. This is what the drawing shows.
- Automatic Systems: passenger gates portfolio
What an e-gate is made of: a steel frame, an electromechanical drive, glass leaves and detection sensors. This is what the drawing shows.
