Best time to go: March and April. This route crosses all three of Vietnam's climate zones and their good windows barely overlap: the north is at its best March to May, the central coast is dry February to August, and Phu Quoc's dry season runs December to April. March and April are the only months inside all three. Avoid October and November, the peak of the typhoon and flood season on the central coast that days 4 and 5 are spent on.
Visa for Indian passport: E-visa required, granted online before you board, for stays of up to 90 days. It is not visa-free. Rule last checked 9 October 2026.
Flight from Delhi: About 4 hours non-stop, Delhi to Hanoi
Flight from Mumbai: Between about 4h 15m and 5h non-stop, Mumbai to Hanoi. The spread is the gap between different carriers' published schedules, so the desk confirms the timing for your dates when it quotes.
Currency: Vietnamese Dong (VND). Cards work in hotels and malls; carry cash for markets and small eateries.
Getting by in English: English is widely spoken in hotels, restaurants and tourist areas across Hanoi, Da Nang and Phu Quoc, and much less so away from them. A translation app with the Vietnamese pack downloaded before you fly covers the gap.

Day 1

Arrival in Hanoi & a Half-Day City Tour

The North

Land in Hanoi early in the morning after the overnight flight from India. Meet your driver for a private transfer to the hotel and rest for a few hours before a half-day tour of the city. The evening is yours.

Afternoon
Half-day city tour: Hoan Kiem Lake and Ngoc Son Temple, Ba Dinh Square, the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum from outside, and the Old Quarter.

Day 2

Cat Ba Island, a Full Day on the Bay

Islands & Limestone

A full day on Cat Ba, the largest island in the bay and a green counterpoint to Hanoi's density: limestone scenery, coastline and sightseeing stops. Return to Hanoi in the evening.

Day 3

Hanoi at Leisure & an Evening Flight to Da Nang

Travel Day

A slow day with no fixed plan in Hanoi: the Old Quarter's silk and lacquer shops, an egg coffee by the lake, or simply a late start. In the evening, fly south to Da Nang, where the next three nights are spent.

Afternoon
Check out and leave your bags with the hotel. Standard check-out is around noon.
Night
Evening flight to Da Nang and a private transfer to the hotel.

Day 4

My Khe Beach, Marble Mountains & Hoi An by Lantern Light

Central Coast

An unhurried start after the late arrival. Spend the morning on My Khe Beach, ride a round bamboo basket boat through the Coconut Forest, explore the caves of Marble Mountains, and reach Hoi An Ancient Town as its lanterns come on.

Day 5

Ba Na Hills & the Golden Bridge

Above the Clouds

A full day at Ba Na Hills. The cable car lifts you out of the coastal heat, the Golden Bridge runs between two giant stone hands, and the French Village and Fantasy Park fill the afternoon. The hilltop is several degrees cooler than Da Nang, so carry a layer.

Day 6

Da Nang to Phu Quoc via Ho Chi Minh City

Travel Day

An early flight south with a layover in Ho Chi Minh City. If the connection allows, the layover is spent at Ben Thanh Market for silk, coffee and souvenirs before the onward flight to Phu Quoc, where the last three nights are spent.

Day 7

VinWonders & Grand World Phu Quoc

A full day at VinWonders Phu Quoc, one of the country's largest theme parks, then Grand World as the light fades: waterways, shopping arcades, cafés and evening entertainment.

Return to the hotel.

Day 8

4 Islands, the Hon Thom Cable Car & Aquatopia

On the Water

The day for the water. A speedboat through the An Thoi islands with swimming and beach stops, then the Hon Thom cable car out over the sea, finishing at Aquatopia Water Park.

Do Indian passport holders need a visa for Vietnam?

Yes. Indian passport holders need a Vietnam e-visa, granted online before you board, for stays of up to 90 days. Vietnam opened e-visas to all nationalities in 2023, which is often misreported as visa-free; it is not. Rule last checked 9 October 2026.

Is nine days enough for Vietnam?

For a first trip that sees the north, the central coast and an island, yes, at a moderate pace. This route spends two nights in Hanoi, three in Da Nang and three on Phu Quoc. It does not include Ho Chi Minh City beyond a layover, the Mekong Delta or an overnight cruise.

How long is the flight from Delhi to Vietnam?

About four hours non-stop from Delhi to Hanoi. The flight home from Phu Quoc on this route connects through Hanoi, so allow most of the day.

What is the weather like on this route in December?

Cool in Hanoi, especially in the mornings and evenings; milder on the central coast; warm and sunny on Phu Quoc. Ba Na Hills is noticeably cooler than Da Nang, so pack layers rather than one kind of clothing.

What is the time difference between India and Vietnam?

Vietnam is one hour and thirty minutes ahead of India.
