Dubai visa for Indian passport holders

If you hold an Indian passport, a visa is needed for Dubai and it must be arranged before travel, as verified on 9 Oct 2026. Do not plan to sort this out at the airport, because an ordinary Indian passport on its own does not qualify for the easier entry route. The main path is a pre-arranged UAE visa, which you should secure before you book or confirm your flights. Below, we explain the one exception that lets some Indian travellers enter more easily, the documents to keep ready, and what to double-check before you fly.
The basic rule for Indian passports
A visa is needed for Dubai and is arranged before travel. The standard approach is a pre-arranged UAE visa, which you apply for in advance and receive before your departure date. This applies whether you are going for a short holiday, a family visit or a work trip.
Plan your timeline carefully. Start the application process well before your intended travel dates, and book your flights and hotels only after you have approval and can see the details clearly. A visa application can take a few days, and rushing it at the last minute only adds stress to a trip that should be smooth.
Remember that a visa gets you entry into the country. It does not cover travel insurance, international flights, airport transfers, personal spending, or meals not listed in your package. Treat the visa as one piece of the whole plan, not the whole plan.
The exception for holders of certain other visas and permits
There is one situation where an Indian passport holder can get a shorter entry arrangement on arrival instead of the standard pre-arranged visa. This is available only if you also hold one of the following, valid for at least six months:
- A valid US visa
- A US green card
- A residence permit from the UK
- A residence permit from an EU country
- A residence permit from Canada, Australia or New Zealand
- A residence permit from Japan, Singapore or South Korea
This route allows a stay of 14 days, extendable once. It is worth understanding clearly: the Indian passport alone is not enough. You must hold the additional valid visa or permit at the same time. If your other visa or permit has less than six months of validity left, it will not help you.
There is also a caution attached to this rule. Reports from July 2026 say a UK residence permit on its own is being dropped from the accepted list. This is a change worth taking seriously. If you were planning to rely on a UK residence permit alone, check the current rule before you travel rather than assuming it still works. Rules like this can shift with little notice, and the safest habit is to verify close to your departure date.
What to have ready before applying
A visa application moves faster when your paperwork is complete from the start. Gather these before you begin, so you are not hunting for documents mid-application:
- A passport valid for at least six months from your date of travel, with clear blank pages
- A recent passport-size photograph on a plain white background
- Confirmed flight bookings, outward and return
- Hotel or stay confirmation for your time in Dubai
- Proof of funds for the trip, such as recent bank statements
- A completed visa application form with details matching your passport exactly
If you plan to use the exception route, also carry the supporting document that makes you eligible, such as your valid US visa or green card, or an eligible residence permit. Keep a printed copy and a digital copy saved on your phone. Having both means you are prepared even if your phone battery dies or a paper gets misplaced.
A small but important habit: check that the name, date of birth and passport number in your application match your passport letter for letter. Small mismatches are among the most common reasons an application gets delayed or sent back. Take your time filling in the form the first time.
What to check before you fly
Even after your visa is approved, go through this checklist at your end. It takes only a few minutes and prevents problems at the airport counter:
- Check the name, passport number and dates on the visa against your passport
- Confirm your passport has more than six months of validity on your return date
- Carry a printed copy of the visa along with a digital copy
- Keep your return ticket and hotel booking reachable for the immigration officer
- If relying on the exception, recheck your supporting visa or permit is still valid and still on the accepted list
Immigration officers may ask to see your return ticket or your stay confirmation. Have them in your hand luggage rather than buried in checked baggage. It is a simple step that keeps the line moving and lowers your own stress on arrival.
What the visa does not cover
A Dubai visa gets you entry to the country. It does not cover travel insurance, international flights, airport transfers, personal spending, or meals not listed in your package. If your trip includes a visa, read the package details closely so you know exactly what is inside and what you will pay for separately.
To give one example, a package covering 5 nights and 6 days can include the visa, hotels on twin sharing, a 4x4 desert safari with BBQ dinner, Burj Khalifa 124th or 125th floor at sunset, Dubai Frame, BAPS Hindu Mandir in Abu Dhabi and Ferrari World, priced at ₹46,499 per person, twin sharing, international flights not included for 5 nights, priced on 8 Oct 2026, valid through 7 Nov 2026.
For the visa rule that applies to any other country you plan to visit, check the visa rules page for Indian passport holders rather than assuming it matches Dubai. Different countries have different requirements, and a rule that works in one place often does not transfer to another.
